Silver City 

  • Gila Cliff Dwellings Trail – Moderate, 4.5 miles round trip. Explore ancient Mogollon cliff dwellings set in rugged canyons. Best spring or fall.  

  • Catwalk National Recreation Trail – Easy to moderate, 1.5 miles. Walk along a historic wooden catwalk suspended over a stream. Family-friendly and scenic.  

  • Little Walnut Canyon – Moderate, 3 miles. Hike through forested terrain with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Truth or Consequences (TorC) 

  • Caballo Lake Trails – Easy, multiple loops. Ideal for birdwatching, casual hiking, or lakeside strolls. Water and shade limited—bring supplies.  

  • Elephant Butte Lake State Park Trails – Easy to moderate, variable lengths. Offers shoreline views and desert landscapes; popular for sunrise or sunset hikes.  

  • Black Mesa Trail – Moderate, 5 miles. Hike high desert terrain with opportunities to see wildlife and scenic vistas.

  • Sandia Mountains (near Albuquerque) – Moderate to strenuous, multiple trails. Offers alpine forests and expansive city views.
