5 Epic Hikes in AZ
From the red rocks of Sedona to the alpine trails of Flagstaff, Arizona is more than just a desert- it’s a land of contrasts that begs to be explored. Our photojournalist, Michael Marcinko, is capturing the vibrancy and diversity that Arizona has to offer. These frames tell a story of a beautiful where sandstone glows at sunset, forests hum with wind and where saguaros stand tall in the heat. No words needed, just Arizona in all its wild beauty.
ARIZONA BELL ROCKS, SEDONA
It’s an icon.
"Bell Rock is a really cool sandstone butte and kind of the entrance sign to Sedona. You can hike around it, or you can hike straight up and get amazing views of the valley and Sedona itself. It’s gorgeous for sunrise or sunset. Parking is limited - it’s a popular spot. It’s an easier hike." (Marcinko)
PICTURE CANYON NATURAL & CULTURAL PRESERVE, FLAGSTAFF

Like walking in a city park
"It’s an easy hike, almost like you’re walking in a city park. You’ll find small waterfalls, ancient petroglyphs and wildlife all within minutes of downtown Flagstaff." (Marcinko)
WATSON LAKE, PRESCOTT

The crown jewel of Prescott’s outdoor experiences.
"In my opinion, this is the crown jewel of Prescott’s outdoor experiences. You can hike, you can mountain bike and you can kayak. If you have an afternoon and need to be outside in Prescott, I’m sending you to Watson Lake." (Marcinko)
SUBWAY CAVE, SEDONA

The worst kept secret in Sedona
"Subway Cave is the worst kept secret in Sedona - it’s obviously very popular. Great views, great hike. The prize at the end is climbing up into this really cool alcove where you get amazing views. There are also some Native American ruins from the Sinagua people that are really cool to see." (Marcinko)
WEST FORK TRAIL, OAK CREEK CANYON

This is a very popular trail
"This is a very popular trail. There’s about a dozen water crossings- it takes you deep into Oak Creek Canyon. You’re hiking along and over Oak Creek, surrounded by maples and pine trees, with 300- to 400-foot canyon walls right next to you. It’s about an eight-mile round trip." (Marcinko)
