Retired, Road-Tripping and Loving RV Life.

Who needs a beach house or a mountain cabin when you can have both — on wheels?
Meet Tammy and Donny Benedict, the dynamic Arkansas couple who traded in brick-and-mortar living for full-time RV life — and never looked back. At 56 years young, these two have officially made the road their home, swapping morning commutes and grocery lists for national parks, hidden trails and coffee with strangers-turned-friends across the country.
Tammy, a retired kindergarten teacher, and Donny, a former furniture store manager, were just starting to eye the empty-nest chapter of life when inspiration hit — on TV, no less. “We were in separate rooms watching totally different shows, and both happened to be about RVers,” Tammy says. “We walked into the kitchen and were like, ‘Did you just see that too?!’”
Call it fate, or call it wanderlust, but within two years they had purchased their first travel trailer and started exploring on school breaks. By the time COVID rolled around, they took a full-summer test run and realized... this wasn’t a phase — this was freedom.

Now full-time RVers with a 36-foot fifth wheel, the Benedicts have rolled through 26 states, 13 national parks and countless memories.

We’ve hiked in snow at Glacier National Park in July, watched wild mountain goats and explored the entire length of Going-to-the-Sun Road. That was our biggest adventure so far — Montana was on Donny’s bucket list, and Glacier was on mine
But before you think they’ve been outdoorsy their whole lives — think again. “We weren’t outdoor people at all before this,” Tammy says. “RVing brought the adventure out in us.”
Their rig has all the creature comforts — a full kitchen, king-sized bed, even a double-sink bathroom. Still, going from 3,000 square feet to RV life meant a lot of downsizing and intentional living. “We live by a one-in, one-out rule now,” Tammy says. “It makes you really think about what you need — and what you don’t.”
These days, they’re traveling the Midwest, with plans to spend four months in Glen Arbor, Michigan, followed by another four in Virginia. And Donny? He’s checking off NFL stadiums one by one — a personal quest to see a game at every single one.
They also work camp, picking up seasonal jobs at RV parks or small businesses like Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor — all while documenting their journey on social media to help others make the leap.
“We started our Instagram as a scrapbook for our moms, and now we get tons of questions,” Tammy says. “We’ve created free guides, paid resources, and try to share everything we wish we had known.”

So what’s the secret to a happy RV life?

Know your budget. Know your priorities. And be ready to pivot. But most of all? Just go. You’ll never regret chasing experiences over stuff
